About this place
Stationed along the gentle approach toward Saiho-ji—famed as Koke-dera, the moss temple—and Suzumushi-dera, Bamboo Coffee offers a restful stop before or after exploring the neighborhood. Guests step past the doorway noren curtain, find a seat first, and then place their order at the counter. Deeper inside the cafe, a small tatami-mat alcove frames an intimate view of the bamboo garden, while an open-air terrace provides breezy seating outside.
The coffee program accommodates different roast preferences, ranging from a dark roast using Brazilian beans to a medium roast featuring Mexico Maya Vinic, alongside iced coffee brewed slowly with a flannel nel drip. For espresso-based drinks like the cafe latte, cow's milk can be swapped for organic soy milk or oat milk, allowing guests to tailor the body and creaminess to their taste.
Beyond classic espresso and drip, the drinks menu reaches into soothing teas and seasonal refreshments. Options include a bittersweet matcha latte, an aromatic special Assam milk tea, and rooibos lemony tea, alongside cold drinks like additive-free lemonade soda and Kyoto craft white beer—convenient thirst-quenchers for a midday pause after touring nearby temple grounds.
Despite being conveniently situated right across from a local bus stop, the space maintains a quiet, retreat-like calm shaped by bamboo accents and garden greenery. Drinks are also available to go, making it easy to grab a cup on the way to or from the surrounding shrines and temples.
